Most commonly asked questions about moving.

How much will my move cost?

It’s hard to pin point what your move will cost. Your move will be priced either by the weight for interstate moves or by the hour for local moves. There are several variables that come into play, and every one’s move is different. That is why we do a survey. A survey allows us to more accurately estimate the amount of weight that you will be moving. We can also find out if there are any variables that would increase the amount of time to move you, such as stairs, bulky items (piano, etc.), and long carries from the truck to the house.
Why is the insurance voided if I waive the inventory? (For Local moves only)
The insurance requires proof of pre-existing damage done to your house hold goods. Without the inventories, the insurance company would not know if the damage had already been there prior to the move. While it is never a good idea to waive the inventory on a move, it is never an option on a long distance move.
How is your pricing computed for local, intrastate, or interstate moves?
Pricing for interstate and intrastate moves are factored by weight and mileage. Local moves are priced by the hour.
What is the Catch-A-Trip program?
The Catch-A-Trip is a program set up by Northwestern Warehouse that allows a customer to ship house hold goods to its destination for a discounted price by attaching the house hold goods to another shipment going to the same area that Northwestern Warehouse hauls.    This is not an Allied program, so you are subject to the availability of a Northwestern warehouse truck going to the same destination.
How soon can I expect to have my things shipped?
You can set up an exact date with a Total Price Guarantee or with a date spread in a UAS shipment that will calculate cost based on exact weight to deliver.
What is a Total Price Guarantee (TPG)?
A TPG is a guaranteed price pledge. Your price will not change no matter how much the shipment weighs. Example: using a fixed rate versus a variable rate on your home mortgage loan.
What is a UAS shipment?
In a UAS shipment, your move is priced out at the exact weight. Example: using a variable rate versus a fixed rate on your home mortgage loan.
How long will it take for my things to get where I’m going?
If the shipment is self hauled, Northwestern warehouse can give you more of a guarantee that your shipment will arrive on a specified date. If the shipment is turned over to an Allied driver you would have a date spread on when the driver will be at the destination. Allied drivers are subject to Allied dispatchers.
What happens if I get delayed and can’t meet the driver at the  destination to unload?

If you cannot meet the driver to unload your shipment, the driver will find the closest warehouse that will accept your shipment and put your HHG’s into storage until you are ready to have your items delivered. You will need to coordinate with the storage warehouse for storage fees and delivery out charges.

Why do I get a date spread at destination? Can’t I get a guaranteed date to have my things delivered?

If the shipment is turned over to an Allied driver you would have a date spread on when the driver will be at the destination. Allied drivers are subject to Allied dispatchers. If the shipment is self hauled BY Northwestern warehouse then you can get more of a guarantee that your shipment will arrive on a specified date.

Are there any hidden fees that I may not be aware of?

We are up front with you on any situation that might increase the price of your move. We don’t, however, see the destination address and are subject to the information given by the customer. You will only have costs that you are unaware of if the customer fails to mention any pertinent information that would affect the price such as a semi not able to get to the residence at the destination. You’d incure a shuttle charge for delivery.

Where does the driver’s labor come from? Are they reputable people?

We, at Northwestern warehouse, have full time qualified staff that will assist the drivers load and unload the trucks. We also have a list of qualified laborers that only work for the drivers that we can call. Any one working with an Allied driver and any employee of Northwestern warehouse are required to have a back ground check before they are able to perform any work for Allied.

What happens if my things get damaged or stolen?

If your move is considered a local move, you will notify Northwestern warehouse of any damage done. Northwestern warehouse will send you a claim form and process your claim.

If your move is considered an interstate move, you will fill out the claim form on-line at Allied.com and Allied corporation will process your claim.

Am I able to pack myself?

You are able to pack yourself. Any thing that you pack, however, may not be covered under the valuation or insurance. To ensure that all of the items reach there destination damage free, it is always good to have your items packed by expert packers.

What kind of coverage do I have if my goods get damaged?

Per Federal Regulation, Mover’s carrier a basic liability of $0.60 per pound per article. For example: if you have a 100# table that gets damaged, we would pay $60.00 to fix or replace the table. We do offer additional protection called Full Replacement Valuation which offers to repair or replace your damaged item at whatever the cost (up to a specific dollar amount). However the Full Replacement Cost Valuation does come at an additional cost to the mover. Your moving consultant can provide you with more information, along with appropriate coverage options for your move.

Why Should I carry Full Replacement Cost Valuation?

The Full Replacement Cost Valuation is a great option to ensure all the goods will be repaired to the original condition or replaced with a similar item (kind and price). Our crews are professionally trained and use the proper padding and equipment for your move, however Damage to your goods is an inherent risk in moving (whether you move with a moving company, move yourself, mover long distance or across town). You should carry Full Replacement Cost Valuation just like you Carry Car Insurance. You hope not to use it, but it’s there if you need it.

Won’t my goods be covered by my Home Owner’s Policy?

In some cases your Home Owner’s Policy will cover your goods during the moving. However, often they just cover the goods moving in or out of your house, not while they are on our truck. It’s important to check with you Insurance Agent to see what specifically will be covered. Also, you may want to consider what costs (increased Insurance rates, time off work for inspections, etc) would be involved in placing a claim against your Home Owner’s Policy.

What Items are not covered by the Full Replacement Cost Valuation?

While most household good items are covered under the addition Valuation Coverage, some items are excluded: These items include but are not limited to Coin/Stamp Collections, Jewelry, and Fur Coats, as well as sentimental items such as family photos. If you have specific item that you are worried about covering, it’s best to mention this to the Moving Consultant and they will be able to advise you on the best way for these items to be handled.

Are there any items that CAN NOT be moved?

Yes, there are several items that we can not move. Most of these items are Caustic Liquids (most cleaning supplies) and anything flammable. Your moving consultant will generally point these items out during the survey, and can provide you with a complete listing.

When is payment required and what type of payment is accepted?

For local moves we collect payment after the move is completed. The crew will call into the office and give us the time it took to complete your move and in return we give them the price for your move. The crew will then collect cash or a check or credit cards.

For long distance moves the driver will collect before the items come off of the truck. We will accept Certified checks or credit cards. We can not accept personal checks
